Rick Stansbury made national waves last week when Charles Bassey — a top-five player in the Class of 2019 — committed to Western Kentucky and reclassified into the 2018 class.
According to the veteran head coach, it’s just one part of his plan to make the Hilltoppers’ program nationally relevant.
“Why can’t we be like Wichita State or Gonzaga,” Stansbury asked Monday on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “We can. We’ve got great facilities here and we’ve got unbelievable tradition and fan support.”
Western Kentucky advanced to the Final Four of the Postseason NIT last season and will be the heavy favorite in Conference-USA entering 18-19.
