Imagine not wanting to play for Greg Popovich… can’t relate.
The rumors were true… the long speculation about Kawhi Leonard and his tension with Popovich and the Spurs surfaced early Friday. There’s been reports today that the Spurs will not trade Kawhi to a Western Conference team and as we head into the draft things will get even more interesting.
But I’m not interested in where he goes, I am interested in the why.
The Spurs have won five titles under Greg Popovich. Pop is widely regarded as one the best to ever coach the game… if not the best. So why does Kawhi want out?
Reports are that there’s a feeling of betrayal and he wasn’t happy with the way that they handled his injury. But I’m calling BS. Wanting to leave the Spurs is downright crazy. Wanting to leave one of the best organizations in the NBA is insane. So what is happening here?
Is the old school, team mentality that Pop coaches just outdated?
Does Kawhi just want to go to a bigger market where he can be a superstar?
It’s no secret that Popovich stresses team ball and that maybe with this new generation of players, that style won’t work.
In the coming days there will be lots of speculation about Kawhi Leonard, but I’m hoping we find out the truth.
Why the hell do you want out Kawhi? We gotta know.
